Then I came to realize I never even got into some of the pockets, so I down sized to a nice chest pack. The chest pack was nice, down sized to a couple of fly boxes, tippet material, indicators and split shot. My problem was wearing it I felt like Mae West. I couldn't see my feet.
Finally that leads to a lanyard. Call me a minimalist, lazy or whatever, but I no longer need all the "stuff" I use to deem necessary to fly fish. Give me some tippet, floatant, hemostats/ nippers, split shot, flies and I am good to go.
That leads me to wearing a lanyard. If you find a well thought out lanyard there is really no reason to wear anything else. Sure you might need a chest pack or vest on unknown water, but I doubt it. Where is this all leading to? Well, I have found the perfect lanyard. It was designed by Gary & Lacey of Western Visions Lanyards (www.westernvisionslanyards.com). Gary & Lacey thought of everything when they came up with their design. Not only are they extremely functional, they are each a work of art.
Why are they so special, isn't a lanyard just a lanyard? Short answer: NO!!! Western Visions Lanyards have the little touches that make them perfect of a full day on the water. They a clip in front to secure the lanyard to your waders, belt or shirt to 1) keep it from flopping around and 2) keep it from riding up when you clip your net to the back. That leads us to the second cool extra… a swivel clip in the back for your net. Then there is the break-away in case you get your self hung up it will pop open saving you neck in more ways than one. Untangle yourself and you can re-snap it closed. A tippet holder that is easy on and off for loading with spools. Enough strong barrel swivels to attach all the bells and whistles you ever need. Check out their web site for all the other special touches: www.westernvisionslanyards.com.
And finally last but not least they will design the lanyard with your colors in mind. That's right a "custom" lanyard. A one off made especially for you. Here is what I mean. Below is a picture of the Super Raffle package. Notice how Gary matched the lanyard to the rod? Yep, the beads match the Bamboo, wraps, Agate stripper and seat. It’s the total package.
Until next time my friends,
