Soul Transplant

6/24/2016

This is the story of  the "Soul Transplant".  Had a customer who broke his life long fishing companion, his Silaflex 6'6" 3 weight fiberglass rod.  What started out as a sad death of a Sliaflex ended with it's guides, tip-top and hook keeper transplanted onto a Steffen Bros fiberglass.

Mark Steffen has stopped making two piece blanks, but made an exception for this build.  After all you can't use  old body parts and rod tube from a two piece and transplant them onto a three piece rod!!! I mean after all we surgeons do have our ethics ;-)

Build Details:
Blank: Steffen Bros Fiberglass 2-3 wt., 6'6", 2 piece.
Seat Hardware: Lemke LC1 down-locking chrome
Seat Insert: Cherry Burl, turned in-house
Handle: Reverse half-wells
Guides/ tip-top/ hook keeper: Silaflex donated ;-)
Wraps: Gubebrod Chestnut
Trim Wraps: Gudeebrod Sandstone NCP

Hope you like the old school retro look. She cast as well as she looks for a wee bit of a rod.
Until net time my friends,
Pete

Winston.... Oregon Bound

Built this rod in a rush for a buddy's dad.  A rush for me is two weeks with three coats of finish.  Its a beauty of a blank with that rich Winston green. Built it on the same theme that I built my Winston Spey.  Very rich look, but nothing bling bling about it.  The Walnut Burl came off a tree harvested from their family farm.  That made the rod.  Rich Walnut with a personal connection..... nothing better for a family build.

I love this build.  If I can't have my fiberglass or Bamboo I will opt for a Winston every time.  Winston blanks  just have the feel and attitude of  glass and grass.

Build details:
Blank: Winston Boron III X, 6wt, 9', 4 piece.
Seat Hardware: Lemke LC1, down-locking  chrome
Seat insert: Walnut Burl, Superglue finish, turned in-house
Handle: Reverse half-wells, turned in-house
Guides: Snake Brand Universals, chrome, tip-top and winding check Snake Brand
Stripping Guide: 10mm Red-banded by Joe Arguello
Main warps: Evergreen, PacBay
Trim: Metallic Gunsmoke, PacBay, Ferrule wraps, sig and stripper black

Until next time my friends,
Pete
