The RX6 is a lower modulus blank and is considered a moderate action rod. Rods built on the RX6 blank can cast with the best of them. Why not Hotspot? First off some of you might be wondering what is "Hotspotting"? Hotspotting is where you give out specifics: The who, what, when, and where of a great fishing spot.
Pete, why are you even talking about this topic? Well, the topic has once again been raised on one of the forums I frequent. It is an on going topic and many new fly fishers can't understand why crusty old farts like me won't tell them the best places to fish or the hot fly over the internet. That might be one reason that fly fishers get the label "Elitist Snobs"
Again why not Hotspot? Well try this on for size: You find a wild apple tree in the boonies. It has the best apples you have ever seen or tasted. So you go there once in a while and grab an apple or two. You never over harvest and leave no trace of your presence. It is such a great apple tree that you share the location with a buddy. Not a big deal, he doesn't leave a trace and never over harvest. Then, with good intentions, he posts about the tree on the Johnny Appleseed Forum. No harm can come from that, can it? After all everyone on the forum loves apples and cares about preserving the apple trees. Well, next thing you know the apples are all gone, the tree trunk has initials carved in it, branches are broken and trash is everywhere. The tree dies and now nobody can enjoy the tree anymore. Why? Because what you post on the internet is there for millions to see. And guess what…… not all of the readers care about protecting the resources or leaving enough for others.
It's the same when you post specifics about your favorite fishing hole. Many, many fishers practice "Catch & Release" and "Leave no Trace". Unfortunately that way of life doesn't apply to everyone. So that is why I don't Hotspot on any forum. I might post about a fishing trip here, but you will never get all the juicy details. Last thing any of my fishing buddies can be called is "Elitist Snob". Anybody I fish with is more than willing to help others. Even if there is a great hatch and the fish are tearing it up most of us will stop fishing and help a newbie fly fisher.
Plus there is something special about finding that special spot on your own. The sense of adventure if you will. Besides the hot spot today may not be the hot spot tomorrow.
